Information

1.     PREAMBLE

The Uniform Rules must be read as, and form part of the Code of Conduct, being an expansion of clause 5.

 

2.     SCHOOL UNIFORM

  • The school uniform is the ‘window’ of our school. It is the responsibility of every pupil at our school to be a good ambassadress for Balmoral. It is important that she takes pride in her appearance.
  • Pupils wearing school uniform after school hours are required to wear the FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM.
  • Pupils are expected to be neatly dressed in the regulation school uniform as detailed here.
  • The summer school uniform consists of:
    • Regulation navy gym;
    • navy panties;
    • a white short-sleeved open-necked (glad-neck) shirt not buttoned to top;
    • short white socks
    • and black shoes.
  • No platform soles may be worn.
  • A plain navy jersey and/or a navy V-neck pullover may be worn on cold days.
  • The school tracksuit or school Dri-Mac may be worn on cold days.
  • The winter school uniform consists of:
    • Regulation navy gym;
    • navy panties;
    • a white long-sleeved shirt
    • a red tie;
    • short white socks
    • and black shoes.
    • navy jersey/pullover;
  • Black ribbed tights/pantyhose may be worn on cold days.
  • A plain navy jersey and/or a navy V-neck pullover may be worn on cold days.
  • Balmoral tracksuits may be worn in winter with a white long sleeved shirt, red tie, white socks and black school shoes.
  • The navy Dri-mac may also be worn.
  • Pupils are to wear the regulation sports uniform for practices.
  • Civvies may not be worn to any afternoon activities.
  • A school tracksuit may be worn on cold days.
  • If a learner has made a provincial team for the sport she is attending she may wear her provincial tracksuit to practices.
  • Tennis
    • Regulation white Balmoral sports top,
    • navy panties,
    • white socks,
    • track shoes,
    • regulation navy skirt.
    • Regulation navy sports cap may be worn.

 

3.     SUMMER

  • The summer school uniform consists of:
    • Regulation navy gym;
    • navy panties;

    • short white socks
    • and black shoes.

  • The navy Dri-mac may also be worn.

 

5.     SPORTS UNIFORM

  • Pupils are to wear the regulation sports uniform for practices.
  • Civvies may not be worn to any afternoon activities.
  • A school tracksuit may be worn on cold days.
  • If a learner has made a provincial team for the sport she is attending she may wear her provincial tracksuit to practices.
  • Tennis
    • Regulation white Balmoral sports top,
    • navy panties,
    • white socks,
    • track shoes,
    • regulation navy skirt.
    • Regulation navy sports cap may be worn.
  • Netball
    • Regulation navy skirt,
    • Balmoral sports top,
    • navy panties,
    • short white socks,
    • track shoes.
    • Pupils may wear their navy shorts to practices.
  • Hockey
    • Regulation navy skirt,
    • Balmoral sports top,
    • Balmoral hockey socks (with garters),
    • shin guards and navy panties;
    • a tracksuit may be worn on cold days.
    • Either track-shoes or hockey boots may be worn.
  • Swimming
    • A regulation Balmoral swimming costume must be worn when representing the school at A-League galas.
    • Swimmers representing their school at B-League galas are to wear either the regulation Balmoral swimming costume or a plain costume.
    • It is compulsory that all competitive swimmers wear a red (bathing) cap.
    • Any black/navy one-piece costume and a red bathing cap may be worn to practices.
    • Pupils must wear their sports uniform to and from swimming lessons.
  • Squash
    • Regulation sports top,
    • white socks,
    • non-marking Squash shoes,
    • navy shorts.
  • Athletics
    • Regulation navy shorts,
    • Balmoral sports top,
    • short white socks
    • track shoes.

 

6.     LOST PROPERTY

  • The borrowing of clothing is not allowed.
  • All clothing must be clearly marked with the pupil’s full name and surname.
  • Unmarked lost property will be donated to the clothing exchange if unclaimed after a term.
  • Should a pupil lose or damage school books/equipment, she will be required to pay a replacement fee.
  • The emphasis is on neatness and cleanliness and in keeping with the image of the school.
  • Hair should not hang over the collar, ears or eyebrows.
  • Hair may not be dyed or tinted.
  • No hairspray, gel or mousse is allowed.
  • Own hair may be braided (no beads, extensions or any other false hair)
  • Only the following may be worn in the hair:
    • Navy bobble, ribbons, Alice bands or scrunchies.
    • Navy/silver clips of an acceptable kind.
  • Outlandish, bushy hair styles are not permitted.

 

7.     HAIR

  • The emphasis is on neatness and cleanliness and in keeping with the image of the school.
  • Hair should not hang over the collar, ears or eyebrows.
  • Hair may not be dyed or tinted.
  • No hairspray, gel or mousse is allowed.
  • Own hair may be braided (no beads, extensions or any other false hair)
  • Only the following may be worn in the hair:
    • Navy bobble, ribbons, Alice bands or scrunchies.
    • Navy/silver clips of an acceptable kind.
  • Outlandish, bushy hair styles are not permitted.

 

8.     NAILS: (fingers and toes)

  • Short and clean.
  • No nail polish or false nails.
  • NO make-up of any description to be worn, including lipgloss and henna.
  • Only small, plain silver or gold coloured wrist watches may be worn. Leather straps must be black or brown.
  • A medic alert bracelet may be worn
  • No other jewellery may be worn with the school uniform; or sports uniform at any time.
  • If a pupil has pierced ears, only one small, plain gold or silver stud may be worn. (One in each ear).
  • No eyelid, lip or other body piercings allowed.
  • No hoops/sleepers or rings will be allowed.
  • No traditional bracelets or ankle chains, ‘WWJD’ bracelets, “Power” bracelets, colourful bands, name bracelets, charm bracelets, nomination bracelets or toe rings may be worn.
  • Glasses – no strings to be used on glasses

 

9.     MAKE-UP

  • NO make-up of any description to be worn, including lipgloss and henna.

 

10. JEWELLERY

  • Only small, plain silver or gold coloured wrist watches may be worn. Leather straps must be black or brown.
  • A medic alert bracelet may be worn
  • No other jewellery may be worn with the school uniform; or sports uniform at any time.
  • If a pupil has pierced ears, only one small, plain gold or silver stud may be worn. (One in each ear).
  • No eyelid, lip or other body piercings allowed.
  • No hoops/sleepers or rings will be allowed.
  • No traditional bracelets or ankle chains, ‘WWJD’ bracelets, “Power” bracelets, colourful bands, name bracelets, charm bracelets, nomination bracelets or toe rings may be worn.
  • Glasses – no strings to be used on glasses

 

11.    CIVVIES

  • No fancy/ party dresses to be worn.
  • No short or tight shorts/skirts or hotpants.
  • No strappy, tight-fitting tops or tops that show cleavage.
  • No fancy hair and extensions allowed
  • Hair to be fastened as per normal school day.
  • No headgear allowed.
  • No make-up, nail polish or jewellery to be worn.
  • Midriffs not to be shown.
  • Appropriate underwear to be worn.
  • Comfortable and appropriate shoes to be worn.

 

12.    APPROPRIATE DRESS

  • FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM OR SPORTS UNIFORM MUST BE WORN TO THE FOLLOWING:
    • All school sporting fixtures or sports days played in Queenstown, even if Balmoral is not involved.
    • If Balmoral is involved in a sporting fixture, then sports uniform must be worn.
    • If Balmoral plays, e.g. Clarendon, then all sisters supporting their teams must wear their sports uniform or full school uniform.
  • Exceptions:
    • School sport takes place outside Queenstown, where Balmoral is not involved, then Balmoral girls may wear civvies.
    • On the Queens Reunion Weekend, for the events played at the Rec or the Astro, FULL school uniform must be worn, sports uniform MAY NOT be worn.
  • Cultural events:
    • All school concerts, debates, music Eisteddfod etc. full school uniform is to be worn, regardless if the event takes place at Balmoral or at any other school.
  • Fundraising events:
    • Worship, movies, DVD’s, games days etc. organised by the school then appropriate civvies (see 11 above) may be worn, unless otherwise stated.

 

13.     REVIEW OF THE UNIFORM RULES

As with all other policies, the language policy is reviewed annually during as Governing Body meeting for adjustment and / or approval.
